...learn something cool?

From Wikipedia:

"The largest recorded nested bird roast is 17 birds, attributed to a royal feast in France in the 19th century: a bustergophechiduckneaealcockidgeoverwingailusharkolanbler (originally called a RĂ´ti Sans Pareil, or "Roast without equal") - a bustard stuffed with a turkey, a goose, a pheasant, a chicken, a duck, a guinea fowl, a teal, a woodcock, a partridge, a plover, a lapwing, a quail, a thrush, a lark, an Ortolan Bunting and a Garden Warbler. The final bird is small enough that it can be stuffed with a single olive; it also suggests that, unlike modern multi-bird roasts, there was no stuffing or other packing placed in between the birds. This dish probably could not be recreated in the modern era as many of the listed birds are now protected species."

Makes me hungry for some spotted owl tacos.

...just not understand?

This morning I had a 10 o'clock tutoring appointment which my tutoring student needed to cancel. When I woke up I checked my phone to find that 2 attempts were made to contact me. The first one was at 7:40am in the form of a text message. The next was at 9 in the form of voicemail.

This happens all the time. People feel that while calling very early or very late would be rude, text messaging is completely fine. But, either way your phone rings. Seems just as rude either way. Why is getting woken up to check a text better than waking up to a voicemail? This seems to be a common agreement with everyone.

In short, I don't mind if you need to get in touch with me very early or late. However, sending a text will wake me up equally. Plus, on my phone it sounds like CTU is contacting me with an important message when you text. THen I check and it's just you. Now I'm cranky AND dissapointed.

(1 week until Michigan's opener!!!)

...have stylistic competency for TV scores?

So, I was watching a bit of Alias, season 4 and noticed that some of the underscoring sounded quite like Lost's underscoring. Sure enough, Michael Giacchino writes the underscoring for both Lost and Alias. While I'm on the topic, if you listen closely, you can hear some Mickey Mousing in Sean Callery's scores on 24. This was especially true, as I recall, in the middle seasons.

...have to prioritize?

So, I was just posed with a difficult problem. I was asking to music direct this amazing score. But, the last weekend of it coincides with SMT national. (or, as Bridgett calls it: The society of cool people who have lots of sex). Do I give up this great opportunity to be able to spend a long weekend in Baltimore?

Sorry guys, this is not a blog your own adventure. The answer is no. With any luck, I'm going to be going to multiple conferences this year. It doesn't really hurt my career to miss SMT but this could be a high profile gig for me. Chris and I will have to put our football bet off a second year. By the time we're both at the same conference, one of us will be getting drunk*.

* Chris and I have a running beer bet over the Wisconsin/Michigan game. I'm up 1 right now.

...walk a foot in someone's shoes?

So, I adore Breighan, but one thing I have yet to fully understand is how she can be constantly tense about random things. Take my closet. It makes her nervous. What could go wrong due to a messy closet, I'm not sure. Yet, nervous.

I have found something that has given me a glimpse into her life. Anyone that knows me well knows that about every 6 months or so I end up paying a whole bunch of money to the public library for overdue videos. Often, videos I don't even get a chance to watch. As a result, I'll ban myself from the library for a few months before I try again. As a result of my inability to return videos on time, I get very nervous when I have videos out. Now, for example, I have about 4 discs of Prison Break (which was decent but not great) and 4 movies.

Logical Brian says "You know what? Even if you forget, as long as you turn it in some time before the morning AFTER they're due, (the library is literally up the street), you'll be ok." Breighanistic Brian: "You're going to F this up. You'll forget. I know you. You're going to forget. Then you're going to owe money....again."

So, I wonder what it'd be like to feel that way about EVERYTHING. Doesn't sound fun.

PS if you see me on the 20th, tell me to return my prison break videos.

...think about a friend?

So, Bridgett told me that BMose was telling some of his favorite Hoffman stories at the BBQ the other night. I started thinking about my favorite Moseley stories. My favorite thing about Moseley is that that he's always up for stuff. As long as you're excited, he can get excited too.

One great example of this was when he went with me to Golden Corral. He knew it was going to be gross...I was pretty sure it was going to be gross, but we went anyway. I think it was "Barbeque night." Now, as a regular of Taco Bell, I'm not a stickler for quality meat, but this was probably the grossest meal I've had in a long time, including my trip to White Castle. Nevertheless, Brian was there trip for trip. (It didn't take many trips to move onto dessert, which was actually pretty good.)

The best memory is one I wasn't even really involved in. Nicole threw a party and I think it was Dae Sik that wanted to play some random game that took about 25 min to set up. Moseley didn't really know what was going on, but he was very excited. "I don't know, I've got some grain...and a number 6!" I don't know who won the game...or if there was a winner...I think Brian won ownership of David's first born or something. But, it'll be sad not to have someone who's up for anything around.

Breighan's kind of like that. THough only if by "anything," you mean "a back massage." And Jess is cool as llong as it involves Eva or shots ;c) (especially both)

...give a shout out to your fans?

I'd like to say hello to Em G, and B Mose who I was informed tonight still check my blog. I will make an effort to post more often. And, by more often, I mean at all. Perhaps I will give poker accounts since Mr. Stine is sometimes lazy. Not that I'm not...
